Khamlia there are about fifty houses. The setting is quite splendid sitting at the foot of Erg Chebbi (22km long by 5km wide with dunes up to 150m high). Music is the lifeblood of this community and its main source of income. This music is called Gnawa Music and is known as the spiritual music of Africa. You can hear it being played at any time of the day. It forms an integral part of life here, and of our relationship with the environment in which we live. We delight in it and endeavour to pass it on.
We are situated in a particularly attractive and interestin location. Khamlia is located in the Mequinez-Tafilalet region of south-eastern Morocco. This region has the largest palm grove in the world, and boasts some 800,000 date palms. Just 7 km away from our Guest House is the small town of Merzouga.
